Hello, BBQ lovers. We are here to help you enjoy your favorite sauce without ever having to worry about carbs. It is possible! And it is tasty. We promise! Our low carb BBQ sauce is just as good (or better) than anything you can buy in the grocery store and it has way, way less carbs. Slather this sauce on a big steak and you’ll be living the keto good life!

Did you know that the main ingredient in BBQ sauce is tomatoes. Tomatoes or tomato sauce are what all BBQ sauce is based around. This is one of the reasons it can be tricky to make a low carb version. Tomatoes are allowed on a keto diet but they do have some carbs. You can enjoy them in moderation but too many and that carb count will rise.

We used Rao’s marinara sauce as the tomato component for our low carb BBQ sauce. It is made with whole peeled tomatoes, olive oil, onions, fresh garlic, salt, basil, black pepper and oregano. There is no added sugars and all of the ingredients are fresh and ripe when the sauce is made. You can really taste the difference! The sauce has only 4 net carbs per serving (1/2 cup) which is perfect for our keto friends. If you have your own favorite low carb sauce, feel free to use it in place of Rao’s. You’ll need two cups of sauce for our low carb BBQ sauce recipe!

All you BBQ fans know that the key to a good sauce lies in the spices. We tasted and adjusted our spices and flavorings until we thought it was perfect. Of course, we totally understand if you need to add a little more chili powder to get your spicy sauce or if you skip the liquid smoke flavoring (although we love this one because of the depth it adds to the sauce.). Our recipe is pretty flexible so feel free to make it as written, give it a quick taste and then adjust if needed.

You may also want to consider what you are using the sauce for when you think about making recipe alterations. If you are making ribs, you may want to add the pancake syrup to get a nice maple flavored pork. If you are pouring the BBQ sauce over chicken to make barbecue lettuce warps, try adding some soy sauce in place of the apple cider vinegar. The Asian-y taste will be perfect!

If you are a planner like me, you may want to make a little extra sauce and triple this recipe. I have found that the keto tomato sauce freezes really well. You could also try your hand at pressure canning and really stock up! Grab some mason jars and line your shelves with delicious low carb bbq sauce. You’ll be set for months.

We’d love to hear how much you enjoyed this recipe and also how you used your keto bbq sauce. Send us a picture of you and your sauce! But seriously, we always want feedback and suggestions. Maybe you have a new and exciting keto way to use your sauce and we want to try it too! Make a batch of this low carb bbq sauce today and start eating. Hurray for worry-free, low carb bbq sauce!
