Interest in the keto diet has skyrocketed recently. What’s all the hype about? Meal prep company GoFresh spent an evening answering common questions and offering some insight into this way of eating.

GoFresh Adds Keto Diet to the Roster

The meal delivery service makes cooking and eating healthy food at home easy and affordable. Their newest project is providing quick, fresh, and simple meals on the keto diet. The ketogenic diet is low-carbohydrate, high-fat, and helps people slim down and boost energy. GoFresh’s Nutritional Wellness Coordinator tried the keto diet himself1 and shared his results at the seminar.

Benefits of Going Keto

When we replace most of our carbohydrates with fats, our bodies go into ketosis. We burn fat for energy, instead of the usual glucose. This can cause weight loss, improved cognitive function, and increased energy. The ketogenic diet has been gaining popularity in recent years among athletes, celebrities, and mainstream society.  The GoFresh event highlighted how to use the keto diet for your needs properly.

Many people who try the keto diet do it for weight loss. This is just one of the many benefits! Keto isn’t like other diets because there is no deprivation or reduced calorie intake. Moreover, this diet changes the mindset around eating and encourages healthy foods like vegetables, fish, avocados, and nuts. People on the keto diet decrease their ghrelin (hunger hormone) because they’re not depriving themselves of food.

Educational and Fun

The GoFresh seminar highlighted the basics of keto and busted some common myths that are floating around social media. Attendees learned more about GoFresh as well as some insights about the ketogenic diet. It’s not a no-carb diet, but compared to the standard American diet of 65% carbohydrates, it can be a big shift. The seminar also explained the process of ketogenesis. When the body uses fat instead of glucose for energy, it’s more efficient at keeping energy levels and weight control stable.

There is no one-size-fits-all keto diet plan. Certain people may be able to eat more carbs, depending on their activity level. Furthermore, not all carbs are created equal. GoFresh encourages anyone interested in the keto diet to do their research and learn if the diet is right for them!
