Updates and Changes
We Released our First eCookbook!
On May 3rd, we officially released our eCookbook – Dinner in Five (formerly 30 Low Carb Dinners)!
The launch was very successful and we sold about 50 copies on the first day.
After the launch, we put up ads on the blog – in the sidebar, at the top and footer of every post, and as a popup. During the first week, even though we had hundreds of visitors coming to trylowcarb.com, our sales were slowing down.
It seemed that the biggest issue was the visitors who came didn’t really know what to expect and were not ready to invest in the cookbook after just seeing an ad on the blog so we decided to change the way we promoted it.
First, we changed back all our ads and popups on Tasteaholics to our free 3 Day Keto Meal Plan (3DKMP) and created a newsletter follow up campaign.
Basically, when someone subscribes, an automated email that was prepared in advance goes out after a certain period of time. We made 8 of these follow up emails which each go out 3 days after each previous one. The breakdown of emails, including the Welcome Email (the one our subscribers receive as soon as they subscribe) and subject line for each looks likes this:
- (WELCOME) Welcome Email with 3DKMP and Intro to Blog Sections
- (FOLLOW UP 1. Keto Calculator & Macros) Tracking macros? Use our keto calculator to get started!
- (FOLLOW UP 2. Keto Flu) Suffering from keto flu? Here’s what to do!
- (FOLLOW UP 3. SALE Dinner in Five) 30 Dinners Up To 5 Carbs & 5 Ingredients Each!
- (FOLLOW UP 4. Intermittent Fasting) Weight loss stalling? Try Intermittent Fasting!
- (FOLLOW UP 5. Alcohol on Keto) Alcohol on a Low Carb Diet? Yes, You Can!
- (FOLLOW UP 6. SALE Dinner in Five) We’re making dinner the easiest part of your day!
- (FOLLOW UP 7. Low Carb Food List) What You Can Eat & Drink on a Low Carb Diet
- (FOLLOW UP 8. SALE Keto Krate) Constantly looking for new low carb snacks? Here’s something you’ll love!
The reason this type of campaign works is because our number one goal is to provide useful information and resources for our visitors and help them in their journey to be healthy and successful with their low carb diets.
If you are having trouble coming up with follow up emails, trying re-purposing some of your existing, popular articles from your blog.

Adthrive – Our New Publisher Network
After a lengthy approval process, we were finally accepted into Adthrive’s exclusive advertising network!
In May, we made about double our advertising earnings with roughly the same traffic as April!
The Adthrive team is a great group of people to work with and have been helpful throughout the whole process. In addition to the great earnings and customer service, they also manage all the ads through a nifty plugin so it’s a hands off network.

Conclusion
We’re very happy with our launch of the Dinner in Five cookbook, as well as our new publisher partnership with Adthrive. They’ve boosted our blog’s overall income and it’s giving us the opportunity to invest more back into the blog and continue to grow and expand it.
We’re constantly working on improving our marketing techniques to remain as helpful as possible. The follow up emails are a really great way to achieve our goals. Interestingly enough, our regular emails’ (manual newsletters) open rates have greatly increased since creating the follow up campaigns.
